USCIS Releases New Designs of Green Card and EAD Card To Increase Security

On Jan 30, 2023, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released the new designs of permanent residence cards (green cards) and Employment Authorization Documents (EAD). Issuance of the new designs began on Jan 30, 2023.

The purpose of the redesign is to improve national security by implementing new technology into secure ID documents. With the new and improved cards, USCIS confirmed its determination to fight against the “threat of secure document tempering, counterfeiting, and fraud.”

Some Green Cards and EADs issued after Jan 30 may still be the previous versions until the existing cardstock is out. Both versions are acceptable and valid until the card’s expiration date. Older versions of both documents remain valid as well.

Changes to the ID documents include holographic images on the front and back of the cards, improved detailed artwork, and a layer-reveal feature on the back photo box.

USCIS recommends holders with older versions of cards apply for replacement cards to prevent fraud and theft.
